Novak Djokovic has opted to withdraw from the upcoming Rogers Cup in Montreal, citing the need for additional rest before commencing his hard court season. The current world number one, a four-time champion in Canada, expressed the decision as a strategic move to recuperate after an intense Wimbledon campaign. Djokovic emerged victorious in a demanding five-set final against Roger Federer, securing his 16th Grand Slam title.

Apologizing for the withdrawal, Djokovic stated, “I’m sorry to announce that I decided to pull out of the Rogers Cup. With the support of my team, I have chosen to provide my body with an extended period of rest and recovery before returning to competitive play.”
With Djokovic’s absence, Spain’s Rafa Nadal is set to claim the top seed at the tournament scheduled from August 3 to 11. Additionally, Juan Martin del Potro, recovering from knee surgery following an injury at Queen’s this year, will also be missing from the competition.

Montreal tournament director Eugene Lapierre extended well wishes to del Potro, expressing hope for his speedy recovery. Lapierre noted del Potro’s history of overcoming injuries and anticipated seeing him back on the court in the near future.
